Split the bill without doing the maths.
Snap the receipt, share a link, and let everyone pick what they had. No accounts, no payments.
Nothing to install.
Nothing to sign up for.
Billy Split is a free bill splitting app that does one thing — it figures out who owes what on a restaurant bill. Everything else stays out of the way.
No accounts
Nobody registers, nobody downloads anything. Your friends tap a link, type their name, and they're in.
No payments
We do the maths, not the money. Settle up in cash, by bank transfer, however you already do.
Everyone picks their own
Each person ticks what they had. Split a dish between a few of you, or mark it as shared with the whole table.
Or do it for them
Someone left early? As the host you can assign their items and cover people, so the bill always adds up.
From receipt to "you owe me £25" in about a minute.
Snap the receipt
Take a photo of the receipt and the scanner reads the items, prices, service charge and tip for you. Fix anything with a tap.
Share the link
Show the QR code at the table or drop the link in the group chat. Anyone can open it — phone or laptop.
Everyone picks what they had
Each person ticks their items and watches their total update — service and tip included, split fairly.
See who owes what
One clean summary of the split for the whole table. No spreadsheet, no "just send me whatever".
A few things people ask.
Is Billy Split free?
Yes. There's no subscription and no ads. It runs in your browser.
Do my friends need to download anything or sign up?
No. They open the link or scan the QR code, type a name and tick what they had. Any browser, on a phone or a laptop.
Does it handle the payments?
No. Billy Split works out who owes what; you settle up however you normally do — cash, bank transfer. Nobody enters card details.
How are service charge, tip and discounts split?
Service charge is split evenly across the table. Tip and discounts are split in proportion to what each person had — someone who only had a coffee tips on the coffee, and a discount is shared the same way.
Can we split a dish between a few of us?
Yes. Several people can tick the same item and the price divides between them, or the host can mark it as shared with the whole table.
What if someone leaves before we've split it?
The host can tick items for them, or cover them so their share lands on someone else. Anything nobody claims shows up as unclaimed, so the bill adds up before it's locked.
What happens to the receipt photo?
It's uploaded so the receipt can be read and shown to your group. The reading is done by an AI model that isn't trained on your photos, and the photo isn't sold or used for advertising. The host can delete the bill at any time, which removes it for everyone — the details are in the privacy policy.
We're abroad — can I see the totals in my own currency?
Yes. Once the bill is locked you can convert everyone's total to another currency. The rate is shown, and the summary you share includes both amounts.
Is there an iPhone app?
Yes — Billy Split is free on the App Store. The people you're splitting with don't need it: your link still opens in any browser.
Next dinner's on you.
